Having converted a redundant wine bar in Guildford into the Artist Development Centre for the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) last summer (click here for more details) space-pod were tasked with delivering phase 2 during the summer recess.
A broad package of works included a new toilet block, moving the main entrance to the rear of the building, building a new resource centre and finally a state of the art bespoke recording suite.
The new facility is centred around an SSL Duality SE large format console with Dynaudio Air 25 3-way active nearfield monitors and further Dynaudio BM5A Two way active monitors to provide a 5.1 surround set-up.
Within the suite is a separate live room capable of taking a 5 piece set and a separate vocal room, all linked to the control position by CCTV.
The whole environment has been built to a high acoustic standard with the room tuned utilising sound absorption panels and bass traps and provides seating for 32 students to view the control position.
Looking at the comments on ACM’s facebook wall the new facility has gone down a storm and the suite is fully booked for the foreseeable future.
